C asean, in collaboration with the Department of ASEAN Affairs Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, ASEAN Association - Thailand, ASEAN Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University and ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), presented "Fostering ASEAN Talent" forum, as part of ASEAN Weeks 2024, on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of ASEAN's founding under the theme "Shaping the Future of Sustainable ASEAN".
Bangkok, 7 Aug 2024 - With Learning and Talent Development as a major pillar of C asean, "Fostering ASEAN Talent" themed interactive talent and development programs were hosted.
The morning session commenced with Assoc. Prof. Yuen Poovarawan’s educational sharing session on the topic of Artificial Intelligence. He commented that AI today has gained the popularity of what 'Digital Technology' did 30 years ago, and it is instrumental for us to grasp the opportunities and face the challenges. The speaker introduced the Generative AI in which AI utilizes the input of information from humans and learns to make assumptions and variations.
Following this session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mark Stephan Felix lectured on ‘Cross-Cultural Competence: Understanding ASEAN Cultural Diversity to Achieve Professional Goals’, emphasizing on different norms, values and mores that exist in the context of different countries and cultures, and how to be mindful of them as ASEAN/ international young talents. He mentioned the importance of knowing the correct cultural information and knowledge to apply to everyday work life so that young talents in ASEAN can excel cross-cultural communication skills.
The afternoon session began with the final round of ASEAN Youth Speech Contest under the title ‘Shaping the Future of Sustainable ASEAN’ in which young talent finalists from ASEAN countries presented their innovative thoughts and groundbreaking ideas in front of the judges and the audience.
This session is continued by the panel discussion on ASEAN Mobility and Career Growth, moderated by Asst. Prof. Jessada Salathong (Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University), and Mr. Sopon Racharaksa (Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, ThaiBev), Mr. Wongsakorn Chairatanathavorn (Manager - Workforce Planning & Talent Acquisition, SCG) and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sineenat Sermcheep (Director, ASEAN Studies Center, Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University) as speakers.
The speakers shared their insights on major recruitment industries and areas for young talents in the ASEAN region, concluding with the hard and soft skills ASEAN youths had to be prepared of in order to encounter workplace challenges and to successfully facilitate career mobility across ASEAN region and beyond.
