Weaving Our Stories

With a strong belief in the power of art to foster dialogue on significant topics and strengthen relationships between nations, C asean Leadership Foundation was honored to serve as the implementing partner for the inspiring “Weaving Our Stories” project. Led by the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok in collaboration with Thai counterparts, the initiative celebrated the 190th anniversary of U.S.-Thai diplomatic relations through a compelling blend of art and cultural engagement.

At the heart of the project was the art installation “Time Owes Us Remembrance”, showcased at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Created by Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, a multidisciplinary artist born in Atlanta to Thai and Indonesian immigrants, the work emerged from meaningful engagement with Thai communities through in-depth conversations, co-creation sessions, and visits to communities across Thailand. This captivating artwork and accompanying exhibition delve into themes of women’s empowerment, sustainability, climate change, and the enduring 190-year legacy of U.S.-Thai diplomatic relations.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana graciously presided over the opening of the Weaving Our Stories exhibition on January 17, 2024. Complementing the art installation, a series of programs were curated to engage diverse audiences and strengthen the cultural connection between Thailand and the United States. The project fostered deeper cross-cultural understanding and dialogue, leaving a lasting impact by highlighting the shared values of empowerment, sustainability, and resilience, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.
